2023-2024 Annual report
God is always moving and we are excited to be a part of what He is doing in Topeka and around the world. The report below is just a snapshot of what has happened at Grace Point during the last year. It includes a letter from Pastor Tim, stories of life-change, key metrics, and Scripture that has impacted our ministries this year.
From Pastor Tim
I've been thinking about liminal spaces over the last few years. The word “liminal” comes from the Latin word “limen,” which means threshold. To be in a liminal space means to be on the verge of something new but not quite there yet. We’re reminded over and over, through the ministry of Jesus, that the kingdom of God is here but not yet fully realized. We literally find ourselves living in a liminal space between what is and what is to come.
You might say this year was a liminal space for us as a church. As we’ve looked to the future of mothering our first Topeka church plant, Rooted Community Church, we’ve been caught between what is and what is to come. I don’t know if I’ve ever experienced such a wide swath of excitement and sadness as I have over the past year. I’ve found it challenging to navigate all of the changes about to happen and I don’t think I’m alone in that.
But I’ve also found great confidence in God’s Word. I’ve thought often about Moses and the Israelites—forty years in the wilderness is certainly a liminal space. Those years represented a time of holding on to a promise for a good and secure future while living a daily experience of trust for provision, protection, and direction. This is where we find ourselves right now. We know Jesus is going to build his church, he’s promised as much. But what that looks like in and through Grace Point right now is a daily experience of trust for us. When I look at it through that lens I’m much less bothered by the inability to control or plan or do and more able to sit in the uncertainties. It provides a reservoir of anticipation that God is on the move and His provision, protection, and direction will bring about “immeasurably more than all we could ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” (Eph. 3:20)
Here’s to more spaces between what is and what is to come!
